What Bugs Me About the 300

I have nothing against American cars (especially Chryslers :) but Toyotas
made in the past 15 years or so are pretty decent cars. My family has 2,
one has 180,000 miles and the other about 250,000. Both run fine. I use
Mobil 1 oil, changing about every 5,000 miles. Sure I've needed to do a
little sway bar link work and fixed a CV joint or two, but that's about it
besides changing the timing belt every 90k or so and regular fluid service.
The cars just keep running. We've never had to worry about them or pay a
    big repair bill.

    Daniel,

    - It might for you, but for me it doesn't take any mechnical
    skills/"mechanic" to replace a coil.

    - It's funny you calling me, or anyone a pundit...we pale in
    comparision to you... "King Pundit."
American's fleet of vehicles continues to get older with each
successive year. As for this year's model, or the last few years,
you're correct, we'll have to wait and see. But I'd bet on the
    overall trend continuing.
No, Dan. It's a little more than _a_ book.
What did _you_ want from me, Dan? I'm the one who has to forever live
with the shame of forgeting for a second what an Eagle Vision is. Did
you want a written apology? Did you want me to tell you I'm sorry...
and to bow to "King Pundit?"
A "know it all" yet again... living up to your title, "King Pundit."

Dan, please, for a change, try to keep an open mind. Turbo Eclipses
are very good performance cars. Very stout engines/drivelines! And
they respond to simple mods extremely well!

    Dan,

The magazine was from circa 1978 or 1979. But, more importantly, the
article was written by the very renowned the late Steve Collison.

If you have some better info to offer, please share it with us instead
of your insults. Or have you lost sight of what a newsgroup is
    supposed to be for?

    Dan,

Are you implying that new cars fare no better than older cars against rust?

Okay... How about; you're making an apples to oranges comparison
when you compare the 340 to the 360.
The 340 was designed as a performance engine, the 360 was
designed as a mid sized small block V-8 for use in full sized
vehicles (1971) with its primary focus being meeting emissions
    regulations.

How about; the highest factory output version of the 340 came
from the factory with 360 casting number cylinder heads on it.

How about; For the (appx) last 1 1/2 years of 340 production,
they had cast iron crankshafts also.

Another how about; The vehicle Collison is referring to (LRT) was
the quickest production vehicle in the 1/4 mile offered by any
domestic manufacturer in the year it was introduced.

Patrick - Please try to realize one thing; Daniel Stern cannot keep an open
mind because he is "the" expert on everything. As a result, he can't/doesn't
know how to lower himself to our everyday level of thinking and reasoning, nor
can he understand how those of us at our level may post something in error
    occasionally. Pity!

    Neil,

You seem well versed on the Chrysler small blocks. And I appriciate
your response. However, this post of mine was in reference to the W2
cylinder heads. There was some question about the W2s and I took the
time to dig and sort through a ton of old magazines I've collected
over the years and then posted the info I found. I thought the info
would be appreciated by the group. And I thought it was, until Daniel
lambasted me with name calling and insults. I expected a little more
from a guy who seems very intelligent. (I've researched some info he
had posted about lighting and learned quite a bit.) Is he always so
antagonistic? Or was he just having a bad day?

Thank you. I have about 33 years of experience with them.
Your post(s) seemed to be about a lot of things in general, the
W2 heads were but one item that you brought up.
There was no "question" about the W2 heads. They showed up on a
pre production vehicle but their chances of making it into
production were slim to none. Collison was doing some wishful
    thinking at best.
And it appears that this occurred -after- you refuted that
someone had corrected you that W2 cylinder heads were a race only
piece, and that someone happened to be correct.
W2 cylinder heads do not work very well on a street
engine/application. Putting them into a production vehicle would
    have been a disaster.
    Like?
Most intelligent people do not casually ignore blatantly
    incorrect information.

    (I've researched some info he
    That's a good thing. :)
If you've spent any time in r.a.m.c you'd know that the answer is
no. Daniel spends a lot of time contributing and helping people,
probably as much or more than anyone else.
Dunno what kind of day he was having, but it appeared to me that
you hit one of his hot buttons.

Man, was I off base. I thought "never argue with a fool" was the number one

umm.. As far as I know, the #1 rule of usenet is "whoever
    mentions Hitler first, loses."
Dunno, did you find an argument somewhere?
