Some of us never STOPPED driving them.... ;-)

You do know that pre-1984 cars weren't eligible for C4C, right?

Some people not only do not have basic logic ability, but can't even
recognize basic truths when life presents them constantly. Some of it
    is ignorance by choice.

  9. 1. This is exactly the problem I heard about in Germany when I was there a
couple of weeks ago. (AFAIK Germany pioneered the 'cash-for-clunkers scheme
in Europe.) (BTW, I love that title, sums the issue up, not used in
    Britain.)

    2. I think there are signs of that already, at least as regards nearly new
    cars.

However, the new-car deals in Britain are especially good, beyond the
government cash scheme, which is quite miserly and much criticised. The
govt gives 1000 pounds and car manufactures give another 1000. Not clear if
car manufacturers get extra concessions on their contribution. Plus, most
    manufacturers gaining are based abroad...

The second unintended consequence is ironical. The program essentially
deprives workers in nonautomotive industries of work in order to
employ more people in the automotive industry, but that is proving
problematic. Owners of independent auto repair shops are complaining
of lost business – the work they would have had keeping those used
cars running. So while some workers in the auto industry may have kept
jobs building new cars, other workers in a related industry are losing
    their jobs repairing old cars.

There is a third unintended consequence of the clunkers program. By
destroying something like three-quarters of a million used cars,
inventory that would normally be sold on used car lots, the prices of
used cars are being driven up. Alec Gutierrez, senior market analyst
with Kelley Blue Book, estimates that this program will raise used-car
prices by 5 percent to 10 percent. So poor folks will find buying a
    car harder than ever

  10. Don't worry about the unions, the wheels of justice are slow to turn but
those union guys who think the government is their friend will shortly find
out otherwise. This cash for clunkers nonsense is just a short term
illusion constructing project, the harsh dark reality is patiently waiting
    its turn to appear.

True. They've even convinced union leaders to sell out the members by
supporting cap and trade. Union mentality actually doesn't have common
sense to figure out on its own that cap and trade (if passed - let's
hope the heck not) would drive their remaining jobs oversees.

  13. Wouldn't you rather be a Brazil nut?

    You'd be tastier then.
