Hey all. I own a 98 Plymouth Voyager. When I put the van in gear, at
times it dosen't want to go. I then have to switch from overdrive to
drive if that doesn't work switch to a lower gear. Sometimes it kicks
in and sometimes it doesn't. Not good when stopped at a stop sign.
Also the control panel for defrost, back wiper, back window wash, are
all blinking. What to do? Take it in for a diagnostic? The governer in
the trans. not engaging? Any suggestions?

I would suggest taking it to a qualified transmission shop. Make sure
that they have the proper scan tool and that they don't try to
diagnose it by driving it. Being that your cluster is having problems
too, it could be that the transmission is not getting power to the
solenoid pack. I had this problem with my 1993 Voyager. The ignition
switch went bad, and the transmission wasn't shifting. When they
connected the scanner, they could not get any codes from the
    transmission.

There is also a known problem with digital clusters on this model. I
believe that diagnostic and repair procedures are available on
    allpar.com.

And a GOOD tranmission shop wont charge you one penny to read the
    codes!

When I had problems with my 1994 GC, the trans shop read the codes for
FREE in less than 5 minutes. They kept the van for a day. Within 2
hours thay had determined it was a fault solenoid pack.

Around $260 CDN$ including taxes be the time the smoke cleared. No
    charge for reading the codes.

Ran better than new after that! :)

Take your time and find a reputable shop. The shop I went to was so
busy that they ONLY worked on Automatics. They are AAA/CAA certified
as a Transmission "speciaist", they have a great reputation in the
community, they are NOT a "chain", they have been in business for over
30 years, and have a huge wall FULL of "Thank You" letters from
    satisfied customers. :)

Oh, and they repair so many of the A604 style trannys that they have a
dedicated team just for that model and it's variants. They rebuild
over 7 per week and have done for YEARS. :) :)

When I pulled up in "limp mode", there were no less than 5 dodge
    minivans there getting rebuilds!
