Transmission kicks out of gear

    My 82 automatic. The gas pedal loses tension and until you push it to the carpet but then it kicks into neutral. I'm assuming that it has to do with the passing gear but I've never had anything with this feature so I have no clue what it's issue is. any ideas would help thanks in advance
