Tranny problems

Hi- new member here, looking for sound advice and wisdom. Just purchased a new 1990 lebaron convertable from Florida. Didn’t pay a lot for it but body and engine are in great shape, the top isn’t bad. One problem is tranny. It’s in limp mode i believe and I am looking for a way to access codes. Are there any code reader’s available out there to be had for a reasonable price. Seems like that is the only way to access any info in the trannys brain? Or is there some way other than that to get codes?- thanks
