Anyone have an aftermarket remote starter?

I'd really like one of these things on my 99 T&C. Can I get some input from
others who have them? Any makes of starters I should avoid? Any you would
    recommend?

    Thanks,
    Brigitte

  3. These devices are *notorious* for causing serious, expensive and/or
unfixable electrical system problems in the vehicles in which they're
    installed.

don't listen to dan! as long as it's done by a quality minded person and
soldered into place your should have no issues
i have been doing them since 86 and they have come a long way
i have transferred some to 3 -4 vehicles for the same person
the dei brand is top dog for the money. you can spend more but it's gets out
    of hand with options
and the big box stores usually have hacks/kids install them
find a long established mom and pop store to get better quality

I'll second the vote for the units from 'Directed Electronics.'

    http://www.directed.com/

They market under several brands at different price points-
    -Viper
    -Python
    -Valet
    -Clifford
    just to name a few.

I have a couple Viper units on two of our cars. They are all-in-one
car alarm & remote start units. My best advice though is to find a
    GOOD INSTALLER.

You have just cut out 99.9% of all auto installers in the country
right there. Most of them wouldn't know what solder is if it was dripped on
their hand, let alone be able to avoid making a cold joint.

I have them on every vehicle i own, they are great for cold weather starts,
One of the dealers I worked at installed them on a regular basis, i have
never seen any problem with these devices

Other than the aforementioned warming up the car via extended idling.
    Not a great idea.

I work with a woman who just had an engine fire deemed to have been caused
by a remote starter installed a year ago at Audio King (Ultimate
    Electronics) .

Well Kevin, when things get installed improperly these things could happen,
even if it were done properly, things do break, The ten minutes that the
timer has on the auto start devices i use is not going to cause any problem,
I sit in traffic evey day for 3 times that long idling, sure if you dont
maintain your vehicle problems could surface from it or anything else

Nope cant say that Ive heard of that problem, We are not a Jeep dealer,
However we have 2 jeeps techs that are kept constantly busy, I have run into
problems like that in the past on other vehicles, been awhile ago and I
think we had to shield the radio with aluminum foil or something like that

causing the remote's not to work
