  1. I am also not sure about Eeyore's "king" bit. At around 35+ pounds per kg
for best steak cuts (in London) GBP 100 don't go THAT far in a week.

  2. Try the oil and gas journal.
So? Look at the numbers for your self. Start here:

There is a consensus among those that have been looking into it for a
while. What you should be asking is why major media and world leaders
    are pretending otherwise.

  3. You wrote, 'Corn is subject to droughts, insects and floods which could
put a damper on things, this is why we really can't ever have a total
    conversion to ethanol;'

Sure sounds like if not for droughts and insects we could have a total
    conversion.
If you are going to mislead others, I'll post.
See, there you go again. We are on no path to alternatives.

You are so correct. It could be a distance change between the sun and
earth, it could be that we simply have more people on this earth than
ever before, it could be a lot of things. But the Environmentalists see
opportunity here and they are going to take advantage of it any way they
can. They could be right, but then again, they could be wrong.

    I really don't think they're pretending at all. We've seen a similar
scare like this before. I think that if it were true, these energy
companies would be in a giant rush to develop alternatives and get in
the new game early on. They don't seem too upset except for the fact
that they are being held up from going to places to get this fuel.

To be honest I find stealk boring pretty quickly.

Your money can go a long way with classic roast meals and they can be utterly
delicious. That's the kind of thing I meant. A good bolognese style sauce with
    spaghetti takes some beating too.

Good food needn't mean expensive food.

One thing that puzzles me...... decades ago rabbit was quite common inexpensive
meat over here yet seems to have vanished. It was really tasty.

So Hydrogen, Solar, Electric and even Ethanol are not alternative fuels?

  10. Thing is, though, Bill, that when I was a youth at school I learned that
there were 2.5% CO2 in the atmosphere. The other day I saw a claim in a
newspaper (not a NG) that there were now 3.8% (?). I have just been
reminded by this section of the thread to try to check this out.

I am not sure at what level we would all be gasping for air, but I don't
think we are quite there yet...

The recent Business Week had a news item on how Europe is helping the
    gasoline shortage.
Seems European wine isn't selling very well, "New World" wine is taking
over, so the excess is being turned into ethanol for car consumption.

    Very true.
First we are only talking the Northern Hemisphere where we have some
older data and only specific areas of the world; not all at once.
    Some climate info bits:
About 1,000 yrs back it was warmer in NE Canada. It's currently warming
in Canada from the south west up to the central Artic.
Recent investigation at a Glacier Canada's Yukon has found a location
that was warmer 8,000 yrs ago than since.
Baffin Island in Canada's far north has petrified and partly petrified
Cyprus Swamp trees which currently grow in the Carolinas.
I Alaska the local scientists say some glaciers are shrinking and some
are growing, it's a wash. They suggest that earth movements may have
more to do with glacier change there than temperature.
There is less ice on Hudson's Bay, but recent research has found that
the bottom is bouncing up very rapidly, due to removal of the weight of
    the last ice age.
Where I live in Vancouver, BC there was a cover of a few thousand ft. of
ice 20,000 yrs back. Thank goodness it got warmer. <:)

The commission is also calling for 10% of vineyards to be taken out of
production in order to stop this nonsense too. It's not all European wine
though, it's mainly the cheap French and German 'plonk' that ppl no longer want.
Some ppl might have called it industrial alcohol in the first instance !

  15. Agreed, but you did speak about a royal feast and I don't get bored by
steak! Maybe because we don't eat it every day. Also too messy the way I
    do it.

In the UK to 'feast like a king' isn't intended to be taken totally
    literally. :~)

It is certainly possible to eat well and have tasty food without huge expense
though, provided one's able to do some classic home cooking.
