Loose Gas Cap does the MIL reset itself?

2000 Dodge Caravan 3.3l had a loose gas cap and set the MIL light.
At least I *think* that's what it was since the cap was loose and the
engine seems to be running fine.

Anyone know for certain if the MIL goes out after a certain number of
    engine on's ?

The FSM is not clear as it lumps them (various failures) all together and
says some go off after 40 cycles, others after the same failure conditions
are met (temp/speed etc) and the bad signal is no longer present.

    Anyone know for sure?

    TIA

My 2002 Dodge Intrepid "reset" itself after I noticed the gas cap was barely
    on.

    How long did it take?
Looks like it might take 40 warm up cycles from what I can gather reading
    the FSM.

Didn't take mine near that long. Maybe a couple of days and I certainly
don't start the car that often in a couple days.

No, just takes 3 good tests and then the MIL is turned off. The DTC is
erased after 40 warm up cycles.
