  3. I found a site that listed production. '86 1/2 was something like 16,200,
up to 16,700 or so in 1990 or so. Then the numbers start to fall rapidly.
Through the 90's there were only 3-4,000 made a year until '98.

Not as much fun to drive as the Miata, but at least it's almost a
convertable. I also have a '78 Scout with a soft top. Roll up the sides
and it's like a safari car - great on hot days. Take the top off on a warm
(not hot) summer day and it's great fun in the mountains. Gas mileage kind
    of sucks, thus the Amigo.

  8. There's someone around here that has one of the last Scouts made, in mint
condition. They were nice; I remember them being around when I was a kid.
We had an International dealer in town. I thought it was a poor decision
to leave the consumer vehicle market...

Do you remember the commercials with Jay Silverheels, Tonto, saying,
"Getum up,Scout"! I agree, I had a friend in high school that had the
hardtop version, tough as nails, dependable, great gas mileage, a
    great vehicle.

  10. As a matter of fact, I do. I used to live in Pittsfield, MA and we used to
take a 2WD Crew Cab into some pretty rough terrain, and my friend who
owned the truck used to say "Up, Scout!" when we were traversing
    particularly hilly or rough passages.

Since you used to live in Pittsfield, do you happen to know any
Haughey's? A teacher friend of mine, Raymond Haughey's dad was mayor.
Also, I know Hutch Hodgkins, he owns a couple radio stations in town.
    Small world.

  12. I wasn't there long enough to get any kind of a political handle on things
then. Besides, I was still smoking dope then...

Seems I recall hearing the name Hodgkins, though. A guy I grew up with
worked at WUPE, and I think that was owned by Hodgkins. Totally automated.
    Sucked... :(
