But a big guy just can't easily look dignified folded into a tiny car.
Been there, done that, and my 6'4" father used to fold himself into a
Plymouth Horizon for a few years during the second gas crunch too. I'm
not saying anyone shouldn't do it, but it just looks funny.

Because the car that is the obvious and direct precedent for the Miata
is the Spider Veloce. Hell, the original Miata was practically a carbon
copy. Lotus doesn't even come into the picture.

  4. Well, the article I read back when the car was introduced came right from
the mouth of the US designer in charge of the project. If *he* said it was
based on the Lotus Elan, I think I'd be inclined to believe him...

My "gay" car list: (I'm sure I'm missing some too)

    Toyota Corolla
Lexus RX300 (also known as trophy wife car)
Chrysler Seabring - Convertible extra points
    Mustang Convertible v6 automatic
    VW Beetle (new)
    VW Cabriolet (as noted before)
    Honda CRV
    Toyota RAV4
    etc.

I think your memory is crosswiring different articles... Or mine is, I
won't rule that out either. But I will say that a Miata looks a whole
lot like a Spider Veloce, and hardly anything like a Lotus.

Mitsubishi Eclipse/Eagle Talon/Plymouth Laser trio is 2nd after the VW
    Cabriolet on my list.

Scion XB, Honda Excrement, and the like are 3rd.

I simply cannot believe that the Mini Cooper has not once been mentioned
    in this thread!

It wasn't a matter of registration or insurance, my second, third, and even
forth vehicles added very little. It was a matter of where to park them
    all.

  10. I have a Supra w/a removeable hardtop.
I want to get a license plate that says "SML PNS", since it's assumed
because I drive such a car, I must be compensating...

But, I will GLADLY prove I'm not to any females 21-45 that want to check...

(CLEAN IT UP! I meant take them for a ride! ;)

  11. I don't *need* the Supra, either. I just like driving fun cars.
    WOW! I coulda had a Camry...Yeah, Right.

  12. LOL! I have room for 4 cars in the driveway, a two car 'turnout' in front
of the house, and room for three more in back, AND two garages!

    NO PROBLEM!!!

And I think the last car I would have sold was a Miata!

I envy your large parking area and 2 garages. I've been thinking of
doubling the length of my garage. Should be able to park 2 cars and still
    have a nice shop.

As for the Miata, with 3 dogs to take out on weekends and only a few mile
one way trip to work, it got so little use I couldn't really justify it. I
bought a tiny SUV (Isuzu Amigo - with a soft top) to replace the Miata. It
fits my life style better because of the greater ground clearance and larger
passenger compartment. Sometimes I miss the Miata though.

    Hey,
Patrick McGoohan, The Prisoner and Secret Agent always drover Minis
around London, and he was very cool, and as far as I can fathom, not
    gay!

Understood. But take a look at the re-incarnation. Look at the dash
and tell me it's not gay. I'd love to have a supercharged one though -
but I'm not gay - NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT!

  19. Yeah...I see her on Mystery once in a while.

She may be 68, but then, I'm not 12 anymore, either...

  20. That's what I get a lot, from both.
Gotta remember, they're fairly rare (although there's 6 of them in my
    small county!).

I had a 6 YO kid drooling over mine! He knew right off the bat what it
was. His Dad said he loved the things.
