Ignition coil resistance values - what's correct?

My 88 Voyager with the 2.5 was recently acting up and one of the things
I read in the FAQ and on the Allpar website was that the resistance
value between the primary and secondary sides of the coil should be
    approximately 8K ohm.
I measured my OEM coil and saw 16.6K. I then measured a new replacement
coil at my local parts store and saw approximatel 9K. I changed the
coil. It didn't solve the problem. I'm wondering though if putting a
coil with a value that different in the circuit will cause any
changes/problems that I might look for?

What is the problem?? let me guess, it cuts off intermittently and wont
    start? Then it starts later?

No, the problem symptoms were bucking/surging when increased load on
the engine, such as when going up a hill. The solution was to change
the fuel pump and sock (see post about going in from the top, above).
