    1. Get rid of low profile tires that make cars look like they're riding on
    the rims.
    2. Fire the whole eniggereering department, hire a thousand unemployed
Russian aerospace engineers and outdo the Japs by designing the first
rationally designed automobile based on aerospace materials, aerospace
    reliability, and aerospace performance.

In other words, if you advertise a 300 h.p. engine, be sure it will put out
300 h.p. at the wheels, on a 125 degree hot desert day, continuously for
hours on end. Otherwise advertise it for what it really is, a 25 h.p.
engine. Brag about how light your car is, not how heavy (remember the
Heavy-Chevy?) And so on and so forth...the Russians will tell you how to
    do it right.

I take it you've never been in, let alone driven a Russian-made car.

  3. Actually, I've driven *in* a *Polish* Fiat 125, which was a copy of an
Italian Fiat 124 sedan. It was about 20 years old, had 300k km or so on it,
and belonged to my uncle. Seemed like a sturdy, basic car, and kind of
reminded me of an older Volvo (144). Communist-bloc cars weren't all as bad
    as Trabbis.

ObRussianCars: The bigger Ladas were were similar to the Polish Fiat 125.
However, I'd suspect that assembly quality was lower.

Lada. Or Zhiguli in Russian. First Lada was a copy of Fiat, but a bad one.
You were expected to overhaul pretty much everything right after you got it,
and engine life was about 100kkm
