Oh goody. The USSR "had hoped" to rule the world. Did we invade?

Maybe my wording was too mild for you to understand.. He planned to
reinstate the MWD work... not "hoped"..

Free societies are often "anarchy" to control freaks. I wonder, if it
weren't for the heavy hand of the state, would you kill your neighbor to
have his stuff? I wonder about people who are so affraid of freedom that
they think all sorts of horrors would occur if some day the government
just wasn't there. Do they harbor a desire to kill their neighbors? To
steal? To run amuck? I think not. If the government were to vanish I
don't think much at all would change. Perhaps a different strong arm
force would act to move in to try have power over people under the guise
of 'protecting' them, but that's just another government.

No, the only thing to fear is control freaks fighting each other for
control, that is to be the government. Society doesn't need
an entity ruling over by force, that is a government. It could use a lot
fewer people trying to control it though.
I don't need a 'masters' telling me how to run my life. Why do you? Why
do you need it to keep you from infringing upon your neighbors?
Some people like being slaves. They like trading their freedom for being
cared for like a pet or livestock. Other people like being slave
masters and using force to make people do what they say. There are also
people who wish to manipulate others for their own profit and take
advantage of the system set up by the prior two. Then there are some
people who want nothing of that whole system and prefer to be left
alone. Most people just don't know any better and go through their
lives accepting things the way they are told they are by the first
two. The first three find those who want to be left alone to be a
threat to them. Afterall, such thinking might someday have an effect on
the masses that they need to feed off of. If much of the masses
withdraw their consent, what ever would they do?

You mean you are the only person in the known universe who hasn't heard Jimmy Carter's "racist" remarks lately?

Jimmy Carter is on record as stating that if you disagree with Obama's policies, you are a racist. That's right. In Jimmy Carter's mind, the ONLY reason to oppose the Obama administration policies is that you hate black men. -Dave

Yes, as a matter of fact. He put on an extremely convincing performance
in the role of a maniacal dictator who had resumed stockpiling weapons
of mass destruction. And all we really know about other people is how
    they act.

However the US federal government knew it was a bluff. The analysts and
others who do that sort of thing for a living knew it was a bluff. It
did work well for those who wanted war because they profit from it.

SH simply out lived his usefulness. The US federal government aided
him in his rise to power (
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saddam_Hussein_–_United_States_relations
) and then set him up for a fall with Kuwait in 1991. SH knew to ask
before invading and was told that the US had no interest in such
    affairs.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasion_of_Kuwait
On Wednesday July 25, 1990, the U.S. Ambassador in Iraq, April Glaspie,
asked the Iraqi high command to explain the military preparations in
progress, including the massing of Iraqi troops near the border. The
American ambassador declared to her Iraqi interlocutor that Washington,
..inspired by the friendship and not by confrontation, does not have an
opinion. on the disagreement which opposes Kuwait to Iraq, stating "we
have no opinion on the Arab-Arab conflicts". She also let Saddam Hussein
know that the U.S. did not intend "to start an economic war against
Iraq". These statements may have caused Saddam to believe he had
received a diplomatic green light from the United States to invade
Kuwait (New York Times, September 23, 1990).

His act towards end was the only thing he had left to do, bluff. It was
pretty clear he was going to be taken out. Would have groveling to the
US federal government changed that? Looking back, doubtful. Although at
the time from the outisde it appeared it might have. SH probably felt or
knew that groveling wouldn't change anything as far as he was concerned.
Standing up however might buy him a better appearance or some allies.

Now we see much the same thing for Iran. A public BS routine while the
analysts who are in the business of knowing are saying that Iran has no
nuclear weapons program and if they were to start one would be at least
a decade off of having a weapon and then still not have a delivery
system capable of being any threat to the USA.

Anyway, the best way to deal with the Iran 'problem' IMO? Sell them
stuff. Free open trade. A thirty year pent up demand for american V8 RWD
cars would be a good thing for the US economy right now. The government
in Iran could then be the 'bad guy' and try to stop it, but then the
people there wouldn't like that. It was US consumer goods leaking into
the soviet union that brought about its downfall as much as anything
else if not the reason. It should work in Iran too. Iran's population
is not a bunch of religious nut-jobs contrary to what bulk of the US
media would lead us to believe.

That said, war is a lot more profitable to those close to the US
government. selling them stuff is more profitable for us little people.

So you pretend not to recognize the other side of that coin? What
planet have you been living on? You can't be serious.
Care to give some examples of where that has been tried and worked for
    any meaningful length of time?
There's no perhaps about it. A vacuum will be filled. The job of the
people is to ensure that there's a benign presence in place to prevent
that void and to protect against those who would steal from, harm, and
kill you. Take that away and it gets pretty nasty (lots of examples in
the present world and throughout history).
Umm - how about to protect from those who would kill, steal, and destroy
if there were no man-made law or authority to tell them they can't (the
other side of the coin that you are pretending doesn't exist).
Isolationism doesn't work. There are those in the world who will invade
the "live and let live" isolationists. Look up "sharia law" and
"caliphate". You live in Britain and don't know about this stuff?

And just think - only 3 years ago (2006 for those of you in Rio Linda),
Hillary Clinton said "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism". In
2009 if you protest, you are automatically a racist. Oy vey!

I quess now the Olympic Committee is at least borderline racist.

Same principle in that those laws are designed to interfere with your
life and activities that have no effect on others. What I don't
understand is why you would favor aspects of US law that mandate X
amount of years in prison for certain crimes or mandate that you are
labeled Y and must report your movements to the government for other
crimes while not favoring aspects of Sharia law mandating amputation or
    death for certain crimes?
