    Hi all,

Last night as I drove back from work I noticed my speedometer behaving
erratically and then it stopped working completely. Then this morning as I
drove to work I found that as I shifted down from third to second the car
engine would cut out completely. This happens mostly when I am slowing down
to turn around corners etc. I am not sure if the speedo problem is linked to
the engine stalling but since they happened a day apart I'd be inclined to
    think so.

Any ideas what's going on? I am taking my car to an auto-mechanic tomorrow
morning and would like to know what I'm up against. I hope it's not too
    expensive. :-(

    Thanks

    Hi Young,

I have a '96 neon with a similar problem. My speedo just stopped working
one day on the highway. I found out that there is an intermittancy in the
dash board. When the speedo stops working, all I have to do is slap the
dash and it works again. I think there is a cold solder joint in the dash
module that causes this problem. Everytime this happens. all I do is slap
the damn dash and it works every time.
As far as your engine cutting out, I have no idea. sorry. But I don't
think the two problems are related.

    What Year.

A symptom of the power managemanet computer failing sometimes effect
    the speedo.

It may be covered under the emmission warranty so make sure you ask.

I had a Omni once that had the same problem and the dealer was going
to charge me for a new computer till I told them it should be covered
under that warranty and it was.

  4. Chrysler engine computers almost never fail, and the original poster's
problem is probably nothing more severe than a faulty vehicle speed
    sensor.

Could be a speed sensor, if the vehicle has cruise control does it work??
and when the car cuts off does it start right back up??
