Clear film paint protection ?

Just purchased a new vehicle and the dealer had a folder describing
a clear film that can be applied in frontal areas to eliminate the normal
dings, scratches, etc that appear over time. Dealer doesn't install,
    done by another shop.
Anyone have any experience/comments/whatever ? Sounds like a good idea
    if it really works.
    Thx

  2. Yeah, a while back a similar item was available at Ziebart. I don't
know if it still is. It was a thick clear film that was APPLIED on the
lower rocker panels and quarter panels.
It worked. But I wouldn't want it on, say the hood. It was definitely
noticealble and had an orange peel texture to it.

IMO not necessary. Just a dealer profit item.
I'm on my second car with clear coat since '86.
First one was peeled a bit by hot sun, second one is fine after 13 yrs.

Just don't follow too closely and wash it occasionally.
I suggest Turtle Wash and Wax.

So a Google search on "3M protective film" and on "XPel protective
film". You will get many links, including automotive forum discussions
    and tests/evaluations.
