DAS: What do you mean "nope"? As you said, you only "ocasionally" get
Opels made in Germany (or Vauxhalls made in England for that matter) in the
US. I did not say there is NO interchange. The Holden/Monaro/Pontiac is an
exception, and not many of those will be sold in the US or anywhere, since
it is a specialist car. Relatively cheap bang for the buck, but that's just
    about all

We do not see many Cadillacs in Europe. There are a fair a number of
stretch limos in London -- an incongrous sight -- but, again, these are not
mass-market vehicles. In the UK Chrysler has officially been selling Neons,
Jeeps & Grand Voyagers for mayn years and the available range should expand
now that MB is behind it. On the Continent (e.g. Germany and The
Netherlands) a bigger range is already available.

We do not see, as a rule, any of Ford's US products, such a Lincoln.

DAS: Yes, Chrysler manufacturing as stopped (not very good cars anyway),
but even here they were 'European', not American. Maybe that is why
Chrysler has been selling a comparatively lot of 'US' vehicles in Europe
because of lack of manufacture here.

Come to think of it, DC is maybe ahead of GM and Ford in internationalising
its sales across all brands and manufaturing locations...

That's Texan for "I agree with your previous statement, which implied
the negative." You should feel honored. Steve wrote to you as he would
have any of his friends or relatives in Texas, which makes you an
honorary Texan, at least for the duration of this thread. Don't fight
it, Dori my dear, it's rather invigorating.

    :p

Sorry- it was a poorly worded agreement with you, as in "Nope, you sure
don't see many Cadillacs over there, you get Opels (or Vauxhalls)
    instead." My bad.

By the way, whatever you do with your newsreader makes it really
difficult to keep a thread coherent. When I just hit "reply," the only
thing that copies in is "your "see below" and then there's nothing
below. I had to go back and cut/paste the dialogue above, and the
attribution is one level off now. Just a comment.

I'm really getting the feeling I've been hanging around here WAY too
long and a few people know me WAY too well.

Good translation of the Texanese, by the way. :p

  5. That's because Dori has the standard "-- " signature delimiter, which
most newsreaders assume is the end of the material to be quoted, but
puts the content of the message below that.

  6. I prefer European and even Japanese styling over most American cars.
Although the Catera is an "Americanized" Opel, I'd prefer just about any
Europen version of a European car to an "Americanized" version. It's been
many years since I was in Greece (almost nine years) but I recall seeing
many cars whose styling I liked - Seat, Skods, Fiat, Citroen, etc. You just
don't get those kinds of cars here. That said, I was a sucker for the 300C,
I fell in love with it the moment I saw it.

  7. Oh, good. I admit I reread Steve's answer several times to work out the
meaning of "Nope" in this case. Murphy's Law #1 struck: If you have a 50%
chance of getting it wrong, you will get it wrong...

And, Steve confirmed what you said in his reply to you. I am, indeed,
    honoured.

Funny I did not learn that meaning, even though I was watching, for quite a
while, that cartoon series about the Texan propane salesman (I forget the
    name).

  8. Dunno. Sorry for inconvenience, as they say. I am just using simple old
    OE... nothing fancy.

Re Texan "nope", see my reply to Geoff just above (as seen in my
    newsreader).. :)

  10. Either remove the "-- " (may be added automatically by your newsreader
software if you specify a signature to be used automatically) or put the
body of your message above the sig.

  11. That is odd. The body of the message is usually above the signature, unless
I intersperse my comments ('bottom-post') with the previous poster's.

Here I manually removed the double dash. I just checked. It looks like
    it's put in automatically.

To each his own. I'll never find anything more attractive than a late
50's Chrysler 300 or many of the 1965-1972 era Dodge and Plymouth
midsize coupes (ie, the muscle cars).
I prefer the original to an "xxxx-ized" version in general. But in the
case of the Catera, it was poor mechanical performance as much as
styling that unhinged it. It comes up fairly regularly with some of the
    GM folks on rec.autos.tech.

    That's pro-PANE and pro-PANE accessories....

"King of the Hill," created by Mike Judge (a part-time Texan himself).

Its always amazed me that KoTH is so successful outside Texas and
throughout the world. A solid 60% of the show is "inside" jokes that I
wouldn't think should make any sense to a non-Texan.

Well, whatever you did differently WORKED. This message (quoted below)
shows up with proper attribution when I hit "reply" (Mozilla 1.6, by the
    way).

  15. Yes, KoTH and proPANE....memories...

I wouldn't know how it plays in the non-English-speaking world -- especially
if dubbed, which is common in France and Germany, e.g. -- but there is a
large amount of 'general' humour which I certainly enjoyed. I am sure I got
some of the US 'inside' jokes, and maybe even some of the Texan ones, but I
am equally sure I missed a fair bit. I watched it quite regularly. Much
more fun than the Simpsons, I think.

  18. With the "-- " left in, everything from that point on (and including
that sig. delimiter; i.e., everything after "DAS") is ignored when replying.

I know that some users of the Mozilla browser (and its derivatives) have
asked for an option to have something other than "-- " as a sig.
delimiter but have been told that it is the standard: one can choose not
to use an automatic signature at all, or one can enter one's own
signature and delimiter manually, but the programmers are unwilling to
enable automatic insertion of a nonstandard one.
