The old gray mare ('88 Caravan 3.0L) blew a head gasket last week and my
wife wants me to pitch it over the side and put the beast out of it's
    misery.

She's probably right, but I'm holding out hope that I can fix it yet again
and get more life out of if. Here' my question. If I rebuild the top end,
will I be put too much pressure on the bottom end (rings, bearings, etc....
never been worked on) for an engine with 250k miles on it?

    TIA

    Probably.
At that mileage, it's due for a total rebuild.
If the body is good, I'd consider simply dropping a new engine into
it. What could it cost? $3500 or so.
That's nothing compared to a new vehicle.
