99 T & C transmission fluid change

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Frank Boettcher, Jul 27, 2005.

  1. I'm due a trans service on my 99 T & C. Opinions, please, on the
relative advantage of a flush and fill service at either the dealer or
one of the quick lube places vs. a pan drop drain/filter change which
    I might just do myself.

    Thanks,

    Frank

if the fluid is burn't. i would do a power flush it gets the stuff in the
cooler and the torq. converter out

You could also accomplish that by disconnecting the cooler return line,
pointing it into a waste bucket, and running the engine to pump the old
fluid out while keeping new fluid going in the fill tube. That also
flushes the cooler and TC. That would be done after a pan drip and
    filter change.

Don't forget that if you DIY, you can get the metal sandwich gasket from
the dealer, or if they do it, request that they use the gaslet rather
than RTV. It will make any future pan drops easier. Search Google on
this ng to get the gasket part number - dealers are often ignorant of
    the gasket's existence.

If you have a lube place do it, be ABSOLUTELY SURE that they use the correct
ATF. Don't let them tell you that some other fluid is OK, or that they use a
"friction modifier". Be sure they use only ATF +3 or ATF +4 (whichever is
the correct fluid for your vehicle. There is no substitution for the correct
    fluid.
