96 T&C overheats at speed

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Slartibartfast, Aug 15, 2005.

  1. We just got the car yesterday and I've replaced the thermostat after I
noticed that the car was overheating when I was driving at 70mph. My
wife took the car on a trip and said that it still runs hot at 70mph.
Oddly enough it cools down if you reduce the speed. The fans are
working, coolant level is right, so am I looking at replacing the
water pump or am I missing something?

  2. Water pumps start leaking when they go bad but they don't stop pumping
unless the belt gets thrown off. Sounds like you have a clogged
    radiator.

I would be more suspect of a clogged radiator than a bad water pump.

How many miles on the vehicle and how many miles since you last had the
cooling system flushed and the coolant changed?

t stat put in backwards or it's bad, compare the upper rad. hose to the
lower if the lower is cold the stat is bad
