95 lebaron conv rear windows

the rear windows on my convertible (the small quarter ones) wont go down.
The driver and passenger windows go down without problems, but when I push
the button for the rear ones, they don't budge or make a noise. I would
think it is the motor, but it is on both of them. I have changed the fuse
for the power windows but still nothing. Any ideas?

 

If all of your diagnosing leads to a failed motor, try this method:

These are very popular for going out. What happens is when it rains or
the car gets washed, all that water drips down around the bottom of the
convertible top and onto the window motors, eventually seizing them up
with time. The fix I did to my 87 was take out the back seat (seat back
and speakers are all one assembly and seat bottom is seperate),
disconnect the window motor, and spray a little wd-40 or good lubricant
into a hole leading inside the motor itself. once you do that, reconnect
the assembly and try to use it. If it still doesn't want to move, take a
small hammer and tap the motor a few times and try using it again. If
this doesn't work then it is probably toast. (it may take just a little
time and persuasion to get them working again)

Once you get them working again, try not to roll the window up until the
motor stops, but rather up to the top just shy of the motor stopping (if
that makes any sense). This way it is less likely to seize up again.

Unfortunately, this is a common problem with LeBaron convertibles, and usually
the repair costs outway the value of the car.

This is a two man, full weekend job to do yourself. The back seat+armrests are
one integral part, and to do it right, while you are there you should replace
motors+regulators. They are sold on eBay rebuilt exchange for about $300 per
side.

Most shops/dealers will quote your $1500 to repair both sides (dealer wants
$200 for each motor, $300 for each regulator, $500 labor).

My 1991 has had these repaired three times by me; last time I decided to 'shot
gun' with rebuilt regulators+motors for each side. So far, knock on wood, they
have lasted for three years..........

Well that all sucks, though good to know what I am facing. What is the
problem with leaving them up until I get around to fixing them? Or should I
really try to do it soon so the convertible top can work properly?

"Technically" all windows should be down when the top is operated in either
position, but you may get by.....what I have noticed is that if the rear
quarter windows are slightly out of alignment with the top's weatherstrip, you
may gouge the weatherstrip when putting the top back up.

Fair enough. Since the weatherstripping all has to be replaced anyway, I
wont worry too much about it at the moment, but I will change it all out
eventually. Thanks again for the good advice!
