I have a noise coming from the transmission. It's sounds like a tap. It
doesn't appear to come from the motor. I go underneath it while running
and it sounds like it is coming from about 6 inches away from where
trans and motor meet. Automatic transmission.

The local mechanic said "Live with it". But, I of course would like to
know what might fix it, or is a bigger deal than I can handle i.e:
    rebuild.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    TIA,
    Shane

  2. Could be a cracked flexplate, or perhaps one or more loose flexplate
    bolts.

Or a rock or pebble got into the bellhousing and is being kicked up by the
    ring gear.

So it might be a good idea to take the pan off, replace the filter, and
have a look around inside there?

  5. Well, if that hasn't been done in awhile, it's not a bad idea, but it's
also not where the tapping is coming from.

So, no real easy way to fix this. It sounds mechanical, and it is very
consistant. I would think a rock would sound different. It doesn't
sound like a value tap, its like someone was tapping the casing with a
wrench at a tempo of about 120bpm (I am a musican).

If I didn't know better I would have said it was coming from the motor.

Thanks to Dan for always being there for my questions.
