300M electrical question

Discussion in 'Chrysler 300' started by Percival P. Cassidy, Jul 15, 2006.

  1. I have heavy wiring (fused +ve) running from the jump-start terminals at
the front right of our '02 300M to the trunk for an amateur radio
    transceiver.

Mow I would like to install a relay to ensure that the transceiver has
power only when the key is in the "Run" position.

Where is the most convenient point to find a terminal or conductor
(either in the trunk or on the passenger side of the engine compartment)
that is "hot" only when the key is in the "Run" position? If it's a
conductor in a multi-wire harness, what color am I looking for?

    Perce/Alan/NV8A - I just looked thru the schematics. I don't see
anything in the thrunk directly from the ignition switch. However, if
you have the Midline or Premium audio system, and you probably do, the
amp is in the trunk, and there is a remote turn-on wire from the radio
that's hot whenever the radio is on. If that would work for you, that
would be a Dark Green/Red wire (same wire also goes to the rear window
    defogger grid/radio antenna module).

Not much on the passenger side of the engine compartment - all the power
distribution and misc. modules (i.e. things that would have a RUN wire)
are on the right side of the vehicle.

In the cabin at foot level in the passenger side is a dark green 'RUN"
wire to the ATC Power Module (runs the blower motor - for reference, off
    of fuse 23).

    HTH.

  4. I'm still here but haven't had time to pursue this matter further. Our
300M does *not* have an amp. in the trunk, so I assume from what you say
that there will not be a hot-when-in-Run wire in the trunk.

The power wiring to the transceiver runs behind the plastic panel at
foot level on the passenger side, so maybe there is room to squeeze the
relay in there as well; it's just a regular automotive-type relay. I'll
    have to investigate further.

If the amp's not in the trunk, then you have an amp in the passenger
    side kick panel. BTW - that's not a hot-when-in-RUN to the amp - it's a
hot-when-the-radio-is-on - which may (or may not) serve your purpose.

Anyway - sounds like the power to the ATC power control module might be
conveniently accessible near your power run.
