  1. I think that the idea was to make a vehicle that's sold to the
crowd of men out there going through midlife crises who are
dying to buy a fast, powerful sports car, but can't slip something
red, with 2 seats, and shaped like a low-slung wedge past the
    wife.

There's not many RWD V8's out there that are in sports cars
anymore, save perhaps the very high end and expensive corvettes
and a few others. Most of the red sports cars out there seem
to be rice burners with turboed 4 bangers and such, so someone
wanting a decent amount of displacement doesen't have much
    choice in V8's.

I am really hoping that this black soap bar takes off, because if it
does it will show the rest of the autmakers that the V8 magic is
still alive, and quite powerful if it can get something this ugly to
sell. Maybe then it might stimulate the rest of them to go back
to putting V8's into sedans. If you recall the glory muscle car days
of the late 60's, most of the excitement was taking cheap 2 door sedans
with big V8's that were stifled with mild cams and icky heads and
stuffed up exhaust systems, and doing a fairly cheap amount of work
    to correct those deficiencies.

    That's apparent!

    and continued:
As you seem to want to be so technical on this, the grille-work reminds one of
a Bentley and the bumper treatment remnds onr of a Rolls-Royce.

    and finished:
    Also apparent.

In reality, the only abomination and diarrhea that seems to be associated
    around here is YOU!

Maybe. But such a demographic, that can afford a $50k (USD) car
usually don't need the wife's approval because the wife already has
her Merc or BMW or Audi or Lexus.
What about the Lincoln LS with V8? What about the (arguably poorly
received) Thunderbird? Doesn't Cadillac have a V8? Lots of BMW,
Merc, and Lexus out there with V8's. You think this Hemi 300 is gonna
be cheaper than the least expensive V8 available from those brands?
I think that V8 cars (which arguably must be RWD for traction and
handling reasons) will remain the domain of the most expensive car
lines from any given manufacturer for reasons of CAFE fleet milage and
emissions requirements. As for Chrysler in particular, the meddling
from Germany as to what Chrysler has to offer is complicating the
picture and we'll never know just what Chrysler could have gotten away
with (success-wise) in future sedan designs - especially drive-train
    configurations.
Well, V8's are available in many cars. But the dollars available to
    buy those cars aren't (available).

The pending Hemi-300 will probably sell just as well as the Pacifica -
regardless of V8. People care about looks. In the 60's, people who
bought 300HP Belvedere's didn't necessarily care about looks because
they didn't shell out a fortune on those cars. Now, if the Hemi-300
was more like the year-2000 concept, then they'd sell as high and as
hot as the PT Cruiser did initially.

    Which might be good:

"AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- It's no surprise to
Paul Steel that the Chrysler Pacifica achieved a year-to-date monthly sales
record of 7,589 units in September, or that last month was the sixth time this
year that sales of the all-new vehicle were higher than sales of the previous
    month.
Steel is the general manager of Southfield Chrysler Jeep in Southfield, Mich.
In September, the suburban Detroit dealership sold more Pacificas -- 90 --
than any other Chrysler Group dealer in the country.

The success at Southfield Chrysler Jeep continues a steady up-tick in Pacifica
    sales nationwide:

Sales have increased 1,277 percent since March (551) units compared to
    September (7,589 units).
In the same March to September period, month-over-month sales have increased
    every month.
Beginning in June, and for every month thereafter through September, Pacifica
sales surpassed those of four of its main competitors: the Acura MDX, Buick
Rendezvous, Nissan Murano and Volvo XC90.
September was the first time Pacifica sales surpassed those competitive
vehicles, plus the Lexus RX300. "
