I wouldn't even park my car on the same street as WCC after watching
that show a couple times. Too bad those guys haven't a clue what
proper bodywork is; I wonder how all those kids feel who have had their
rides "pimped" after a year or two when the big chunks of bondo start
    falling out.

  3. They've just been sued by the DOT for replacing a drivers side airbag with
a TV screen. You've got to give them credit for that one, if you're going
to be irresponsible don't do it in a little way, do something
    fantastically idiotic.

I think it looks like a sebring with the front and rear of a 300.

  5. Huh? I for one would not miss the explosive device in my steering wheel.

  6. No doubt the car looks good. I don't like the tacky chrome grill and
chrom wheels, but the rest looks pretty good.

  7. Hey, look, it's a 300C done up by/for the coke dealer/user set.

  10. Well, of course, and you as a vehicle owner have the right to remove,
deactivate or disable the airbag(s) in your own vehicle(s), unless your
state has a law against same. But, it's FEDERALLY illegal for any
professional (=mechanic, bodyman, TV network exec, etc.) to remove,
disable, modify in such a way as to render noncompliant, or render
inoperative any device, system or design feature required by Federal Motor
    Vehicle Safety Standards.

Civil penalties are up to $5k per violation up to a max of $15m *plus*
another up-to-$15m for company principals who ought to have known better.

  11. ....and the black spray-painted taillamps and sidemarker lights, and the
dumb speakers in the doors and elsewhere, and the 57 TV screens...

Yeah, it sucks, but for a nice counterexample watch "Overhaulin'" a
couple times. While there's only so much that can be done to a car in
a week - the standard build there seems to be shave the locks, tuck the
bumpers in, drop in a "crate" drivetrain and spray a custom paint job
on it - I've been consistently impressed with the quality of work.
Rust is cut out and new sheetmetal welded in, frames are powdercoated,
and suspensions and brakes are usually upgraded with good quality
parts. Not to mention the fact that you usually end up seeing Chip
Foose aligning body panels, grinding away rust, etc. which only
increases my respect for him. I wouldn't mind one bit if Chip were to
overhaul one of my cars (although the thought of trying to source a
"crate" Studebaker engine in a week is amusing... and let's not even
contemplate the ubuquitous SBC/THM350 swap, ugh...)

Well, since they're clearly not professionals I bet this suit will get
    thrown out.

I like the fine-mesh grille, HATE the wheels and rubber-band no-traction
    tires. HATE HATE HATE HATE.

Agreed on the tail lamps, but blacked out side-markers just follows in
the hot-rod tradition of "shaved" door handles and such.

TVs don't belong in cars, PERIOD.

  15. Spoken like someone who does not have young children. TV's are appropriate
when used by passengers, not the driver.

that's possibly true... but ISTM that kids raised watching TV in the
car have a completely different perspective than those without... when
I was growing up, the family car was a '67 Cutlass hardtop, without
even air conditioning or FM radio... a road trip in the summer was
obviously windows down, you got all the sounds, smells, etc. of
everything going on around you, today's cars are much more insulated
from the driving experience both for the drivers and passengers... does
this mean that the sports car or basic, no-frills (yet still fun to
drive) car will be completely dead in another generation, or relegated
to occasional weekend short trips only (and therefore an expensive,
niche market?) because people won't have the same associations that I
have with riding around in the family ride? I sure hope not! But
really, sometime in the late 60's or early 70's it seems that cars
really blew up into something more than they'd been before - instead of
simple transportation appliances that just did their job and took you
where you wanted to go they became something like extensions of the
home, insulating one from all the nasty outdoors around you - and while
apparently most people like that, I still enjoy driving with the
windows down, top off, etc. drinking in my surroundings, and I could
care less if my car has anything more than rudimentary climate control,
any power amenities, etc - as long as it still runs, handles, and stops
    well I'm happy with it.

Man, I wish my dad hadn't scrapped that car. I understand why he did
it (frame was rusting out after 13ish years and 300K+ miles of
year-round western PA use) but still... like it or not, they don't make
'em like that anymore... more on topic to this group, I'd probably
prefer, say, an old Dart GT convertible, but those old Olds drivetrains
were actually some of GM's best... another proud name that's not with
    us anymore...

Dang, I have no idea where that came from, but I can't wait to get the
convertible put together now! I need an open-air road trip bad! (I
can almost imagine it now... that "old car" smell of various hot
automotive fluids, warm breeze, the sound of that nice old V-8 through
duals behind me, the feel of that big Hurst shifter knob... the "giant
sucking sound" of a four-barrel through an open element air cleaner...
    ah, I feel better now...)

Actually, I do. But having passengers read a book is a lot less
distracting than a prattling TV in the back seat.

After I followed that link and discovered the pix for the convert....I gotta
say, that chrysler's marketing people are going to miss the mark big time if
they don't offer that to the public.

That body was MADE to be offered as a ragtop.

Ab-so-frickin'-lutely! Such horrid taste, these 'pimp my riders' have.
Such a premium is placed on sound and video equipment, wheels and chrome and
fiberglass. Why have these kids all got such a watered-down idea of what a
performance car should be? All style..(poor style)...no substance.

Awful. Truly awful. It hurts to look at it. Yuck.
