300C - Bitchin' fuzzmobile

I have certain questions as to how the 300C would hold up in police use.
At a MINIMUM, they would have to offer it with the cast aluminum
suspension parts removed and replaced with stamped steel or otherwise
stronger pieces (forged aluminum *might* be strong enough). The Crown
Vic may seem like a dinosaur, but there's a LOT to be said for heavy
steel suspension components and a solid rear axle when it comes to doing
U-turns across curbed and unpaved highway medians at 75 mph. There's no
question that the lighter aluminum bits improve on-road handling, but I
don't know of any police department that wouldn't prefer added strength
at the cost of a slightly lower slalom speed.

The engine would be great for police use, but they might also have to
get rid of the Benz tranny and use the automatic from the Hemi Ram in
    the interceptor version, too.

If they offered those two changes, I agree it would make a great police
interceptor. And I'd want THAT version for myself as well.

Really? Not me! One of my dream cars is a full-tilt cop-spec '69 Monaco
(the best police cruiser ever). My '73 Satellite is a model that was
commonly used as a copcar, and mine has almost every copcar goody except
    a big-block engine- front/rear sway bars, solid K-member spacers, 100A
alternator, coolers on everything, brakes. K-code Mopars (police package
cars) are just 4-door muscle cars. Best of both worlds- and they're not
too valuable to drive every day either, like my '69 Coronet R/T is.

In modern times, a solid black or white, de-trimmed Crown Vic
(preferably with a Marauder/Cobra engine under the hood) would be sweet too.

Yes they are - I saw it in one of the car mags at the market the other day.
Take the 300 and put the Magnum front on it and you have the Dodge version. I
believe the caption said it will be out in the fall. When I go back to the
market I'll look it up agian to make sure.

Ok, let me re-phrase that. Yes, I do like the look of my 4-door '73
Satellite too, but practically nobody today would recognize it as a
    cop-car model today.
Good suspension and engines would look better (and drive better) if
they weren't attached to 2-ton whales. 2-ton whales are ok if they're
30+ years old and their your babies (speaking as someone who owns 2 of
them) but for the current new-car market, a new Crown Vic (or 300C) is
not where I want to be heading in a new car - police package or not.

There's going to be a Dodge sedan which will probably be called Charger.
I've heard that it will have a different, more "slopey" rear roof line, but
the nose will be about like the wagon.

You're right... 2-tons is a little on the small side. But its the best
    they're building today :)

2-ton whales are ok if they're
Like I've said before, "to each his own."

At a MINIMUM, they would have to offer it with the cast aluminum
You bet! I'll take mine with a cloth interior, A/C, power windows and door
locks, rear defroster, a CD player AND NOTHING ELSE! (And I'll settle for
one without the power windows, and steelies with nice wheel covers.)

Slap a $20K price tag on an 'LE' version with the V8, and they'd have to go
to three shifts to build them all.

Are you listening, DCX? I'm only going to keep my Intrepid for so long.....
