I have had a 2011 Dodge Grand Voyager for about 10 years. Bought it used from a dealer, one of the dealer certified vehicles. It had about 100k miles but it looked and ran like a brand new car. The last three years were not as great. It started by not wanting to start. Replaced the battery because it was running down trying to start. Mechanic looked at it and had me replace the fuel pump. The car would attempt to start; engine turned vigorously but nothing. The car would sit for a few days, tried it and would start and run ok for awhile until the day it shut off while driving while making a turn. Fortunately for me, I live in a small town, very limited traffic. This is a heavy car but I was able to complete the turn and coast to the curb and stop with some effort. Not sure my wife could have physically done it. I did a little online research and found out this was a problem with 2008 to 2010 dodge vehicles. The ignition switch snd security electronics had a NTSB recall because the plastic mechanism of the ignition key started to fail around 85k miles snd one of the of the symptoms included complete shutdown while driving. The 2011 was not included in the recall despite using the same part because not enough complaints had been submitted on the failure. On a recall, Dodge covered the replacement cost, on your own, it was $1200. Although it had been awhile since I bought it, I contacted the dealer and he agreed to give me a break on the repair. The van actually started and I was able to drive it in about an hour and a half drive from where I lived. The dealer pulled the codes and nothing showed up. They replaced the ignition switch snd security electronics plus two new keys because the old one could not be programmed. Car was great after that for about a year and coincident with cold weather it would not start sometimes. Had my mechanic pull the codes and it pulled code BA127. My mechanic told me to take it back to the dealer since they had replaced the module before. I took it back and I was within three weeks of their repair warranty expiring. They pulled the codes so they could support the warranty and the codes were clean. Long story short, I paid again to replace the module. It has been good for about 9 months and it has started not starting again. Obviously there is in more to this failure than the TPMS module. Has anybody had a similar experience? Has anybody figured it out? I doubt a third module will fix the problem. Sounds like a long term intermittent issue related to the TPMS but what specifically……
