2000 Voyager Trans. Question

Discussion in 'Voyager' started by Brenda & Steve, Apr 2, 2004.

  1. I have a 2000 Voyager 4 Sd which is leaking oil from the transmission
solenoid assembly. The cover has a warning not to remove the cover. I have
two questions. Is there supposed to be oil in this assembly and what am I
looking at getting in to it. I'm quite good mechanically so that doesn't
bother me. I'm only concerned because at this point it is just a black box
to me. I have no problem trying to fix the leak if it is possible.

Thanks in advance for any input. Steve

First look carefully at the 2 cooler lines running from the trans. Many
times they leak right at the fittings and run down there. If that's not the
cause than the gaskets may be leaking. On the 2000 there may be a sound
shield (but I don't think so). There isa large connector (held in by an 8 or
9 mm bolt/screw). THat comes out and the connector is removed. There are
than 2 or 3 (can't remember right now) bolts 9 or 10 mm holding the pack on.
These come off and the sol. pack will come off. Some things to be careful
of. 1. Make sure you have the proper gasket set as there are 2 different
solenoid packs 1 with a larger rubberized snap on cover one without. 2.
There will be alot of dirt around there try to clean off as much as possible
BEFORE you remove the sol. 3. When the van is level the oil level may be
higher than the base of the sol. pack so have a pan under it. 4. You will
have to remove one of the speed sensors. Be careful with it it's a large
    size but very fragile.
It's a pretty straightforward job but first be sure it's just not one of the
    hoses.
