1997 T&C CD player quit for no reason

When I removed my CD from the factory installed <? i think> CD player
(radio, CD and cassette), I attempted to insert another CD in, and it
wouldn't 'accept' it. It will not receive it or pull it in. I can
'push' it in (don't yell, I know but I was desparate......LONG road
trip) and if I push it in far enough, when I hit the "CD" button, it
will attempt to play, but then will eject it out. It won't eject if I
just hit the 'eject' button. I was able to 'eject' the other CD just
    fine, then this happened.

Any ideas? I try it each day to see if it works yet, since it quit
just that quickly...and it hasn't worked yet, in over a week. I hope I
don't need a new player; I haven't seen any with both cassette and CD
advertised, and I really like this since I can borrow books on tape
easier than books on CD from the library, yet CDs are easier to order
for music (in fact, had just ordered some long wanted CDs when this
    happened!)

The CD player had approved of my music choices to this point, so am
not sure what the problem is. LOL

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Sounds like the optical pickup in the drive that tells the player
that the CD is out has either burned out, or is more likely covered
with contamination. So the drive never thinks the CD has been
removed and keeps trying to eject it. You don't happen to smoke
    in your car, do you?

You can buy a can of compressed gas from a computer shop that
is intended for cleaning electronic components, you can blast your
CD drive with this and if it's just dust, that may clean it out.
