1994 caravan 3.0 auto wierdness:(

    the van surges and stalls intermittently. at idle or low speeds. seems
    fine on highway

    its timing was way off, a garage replaced the computer after checking
    the timing belt, which was in good shape, engine timing marks lined
    up but the water pump was leaking, i knew that and had it replaced.

    van ran fine for 50 miles then started doing the surge stall thing
    again. no trouble codes stored, fuel pump checks fine.

    took vehicle to dealer who says its the tranny..... torque converter
    locking up occasionally.

    now before i sink another grand in this anything else i should check
    first?
